I'm not sure if I like the title of this piece, but I can't think of another. My problem is the connotations that the symbol of the cross holds in our society, connotations that I do not necessarily agree with and that I do not want to appear to espouse. But the cross as a symbol has other definitions, primarily as the place where the spiritual and physical worlds intersect. I think that this rendering, if one looks deeper than just the immediate impression, probably holds all of the symbols of my intent and, in fact, is probably more harsh than what I meant it to be. |
