The body is made of welded wire horse fencing. Inside the chest cavity is a wood carving of a very fat woman, and then in the abdomen is a set of panty hose and died cotton intestines. The piece to represents the physical and emotional body fighting to keep the fat woman inside from coming out (a play on tradition, where fat women often claim that there is a skinny woman inside of them waiting to come out). The carving hovers above the intestines, which represent the digestive system, the organ that can decide which will triumph. The wood carving is without stain to emphasize the fat figure's lack of protection from outside elements. This piece won Third Prize at the Ridge Art Association Member's Show in 1998. |
